DMX termination
« on: April 14, 2009, 09:02:11 PM »

I have been working on installing a lighting system at my church, and have a question about DMX termination. Does the terminator need to be plugged directly in to the last device or could it be at the end of a cable?

My last active device is located in the ceiling over the auditorium and is only accessible using a lift. I have a line run from that device down to the backstage area. Can I plug a terminator into that cable instead of the last dimmer pack in the ceiling? The line doesn't get used regularly, but I want the flexibility of having the line there for special occasions, etc. I would rather not have to deal with the lift (and moving all of the seating to bring it in) just for swapping the terminator in and out.

Thanks.

The terminator must be at the end of the cable run, so it is fine (and in fact in your circumstance a really good idea) to have a cable come out of the last fixture and then go somewhere convenient, with the terminator on the end.
